Want your super to go to the right people when you die?

You need a valid binding death benefit notification

Did you know that on your death, your super does not automatically get distributed in accordance with your will?

A lot of superfunds have rules that control over who they may pay your super to.  So they can pay your super to someone not covered in your will.

So to ensure that your super is paid to the people you want it to be paid to, you need to provide your super fund with a valid binding death benefit notification.

This tells the super fund trustees who they must pay your superannuation benefit to, providing it is valid.

And no this is not the one you do online.  That is a non-binding and can be over ridden by the funds trustees.

So make sure your super goers to who you want it to, and not decided by some faceless person sitting in an office somewhere, make sure your superfund has a valid binding death benefit nomination.

Just check with your super fund to make sure you give them the right paperwork, otherwise it may not be valid and can be ignored by the fund trustees.
