From Today, the Pension Age is Increasing – No More Pension at 65

If you were born on 30 June 1952, you could apply for the pension today, 30 June 2017.

But if you were born on 1 July 1952, you can’t apply for the pension till 1 January 2018.

That’s right, today marks the last day where the minimum age to get the pension is 65.  That’s right, No More Pension at 65.

From tomorrow the minimum age requirement is now 65 years and 6 months.  And it only gets older.  And don’t blame the Liberals for this – this was a Labor Government measure.

If you were born on or after 1 January 1957, (which is about 80% of our population according the 2016 census) you can’t apply for the pension till you are 67.

And that’s assuming that the government does not increase the age to qualify for the pension to 70.  The Liberal Party wanted to do this in 2014 and are still talking about doing as recently as last month.  If the Liberal Party gets its way, if you were born after on or after 1 January 1966, you won’t be able to get the pension till you are 70.

Given the state of our budget, I am sure one of the major parties will increase the pension age to 70 or beyond in the not too distant future.

Do you want to work till you are 70?
